Gran Pavese: The Flag Project

The Flag Project

The Flag Project

This is an introduction to a private collection of modern art that started off in 1988 when 50 talented artists from 10 countries were invited to make a design for a flag. No special theme, just their individual expression of a flag. We were curious how they would exploit this unusual medium since the images would not be hanging to a wall but in the air, outdoors or indoors. For everyone to see and to enjoy.
The artists who have participated range from well known New York graffiti artist Keith Haring to Italian pop-art artist Valerio Adami. From Britain’s renowned Bridget Riley to France’s JeanMarc Bustamante and Annette Messager. And from Japan’s Ay-O ‘the Rainbow Man’, to German artist Günther Förg. The list is long.
The results have exceeded our expectations. Not only is the individual variety of the flags a feast for the eyes, the combined colorful effect of the 50 large size flags is staggering.
